Today
was a full day of California Adventure.
We started today with a ride around the city on a Trolley Car. I was sitting in a seat while The Chief and
the Cisco Kid wanted to hang on the sides. It felt like the commercial years ago,
about the, Rice A Roni the San Francisco treat, and they were hanging off the
sides singing. Only there was no
singing. The ride got a little scary when
the trolley went up and down very steep hills in traffic, and the only thing that
makes this trolley stop is a brake man with a hand brake that grabs the cable in
the ground.
The Brake man and that handle was the brake.
One of the hills at a 51 degree grade.
Our next stop was the Famous Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco is not only known for the Golden
Gate Bridge, but the fog that roll in off the coast. Today was a windy 68 degrees and the wall of
fog rolled in as usual. We walked across
the Golden Gate Bridge and the scenery was still spectacular even with the well
known fog sitting on top of the bridges peaks.
This is the bridge in its bare bones. It shows how the whole bridge was built to sway back and forth and how each sections of the bridge moves. They had to build it this way to resist earthquakes and high wind. The cables on the bridge is the only thing holding this bridge up. Without the cables it would fold in on itself.
This picture is from a mountain across from San Francisco Called the Marin Headlands.
