School Fall Festival

This year the school had a fall festival and the teachers worked the Dunking Booth.  The Cisco Kid's Teacher was dunked 26 times and one of them was a great hit from The Cisco Kid.  He was so happy he was able to dunk her.  She was such a good sport about being dunked so many times.  The Cisco Kid and one of his friends were talking to her and gloating.  I told him that revenge is sweet.  Don't gloat to much.

He also had a chorus performance.

Halloween & Mad Scientist

Mad Scientist by day and Captain by night.

The Cisco Kid had a Mad Scientist party at school.   The School had BOOM Science come in and do all kinds of experiments. the whole 5th grade dressed up like Mad Scientists.

The Cisco Kid wanted blue hair.  He had a lab coat from a few years ago when he dressed up as a Mad Scientist for Halloween.  We dusted off the cob webs and he stepped into his Mad Scientist roll for the day.

 Dry Ice in worm water
Dry Ice was dipped in a soapy solution to make gas bubbles

We went Trick or Treating with an old friend and he decided he wanted to dress up in his Captain costume from last year.  He really made his costume choices very easy for me this year because he chose to ware something from years past. I love to recycle.

For the Cisco Kid's Mad Scientist party I had to make 60 cupcakes.  I used vanilla and chocolate cake mix and used the both to make marble cupcakes.  Frankenstein and the Pumpkin are marshmallows dipped in Green ad orange chocolate.  The Mummy is wrapped in stripes of white fondant.

Our Last District Campout with the Cub Scouts

Every year District has a big campout and they call it Spook-o-ree.  They have activities Friday evening and all day Saturday.  Saturday evening is a spooky trail that The Cisco Kid looks forward to every year.

This is the fifth year we have been going to this event and every year they have all the same activities.  BB gun, archery, kick ball, geology, astronomy and ultimate Frisbee.  For Webelos only they had knot tying, fire safety and how to chop wood with a hatchet safely.

Now because this is our fifth year, The Cisco Kid and the rest of my Den have all of the belt loops and pins for every activities they had to offer.    The only activity all the boys wanted to go to was BB gun, archery, knot tying and fire safety.

How to chop wood with a hatchet

 Talking about Fire Safety.

The Cisco Kids target from BB gun.

When all the other activities were going on, the boys stayed back at camp and had so much fun.  They gathered a lot of wood to build a fort.

Class project from the book "Out of my mind"

The class project was based on the Book 'Out Of My Mind"   The book is about a girl that is in fifth grade and has Cerebral Palsy.  She is extremely smart, but has no way to speak until she gets a Medi-talker.
The Cisco Kid chose a supporting character (Connor) to do the project and report on.  His character Connor is handing the trophy to Melody (the main character) to apologize to her for leaving her behind when they went to Washington D.C. for a school competition.

CPR training

The Cub Scouts Webelos went through CPR Training.

For basic CPR training they are not teaching mouth to mouth anymore.  They do teach that in the more advanced classes.  The trainer was explaining, there is enough air in the blood to sustain someone, its the blood not circulating to the brain and body that is detrimental.  So now they teach Chest Compression CPR only.  She Showed them step by step instructions.
1. See if they are responsive.  If not responsive proceed to the next CPR step.
2. Call 911
3. Lay them on their back.
4. Put the heal of your hand on the back of your other hand and lock your fingers.
5. Then put the heal of your hand middle of the chest, Locking your elbows and the shoulders should be directly over the body's chest.
6.  Pushing at a rate of 100 compressions per minute.

The boys asked what if they get tired before the ambulance gets there.  She said if they get fatigued they can pass it off to someone else.  and keep doing that until rescue gets there.

She had the test dummies there for the boys to practice on. She also showed them how to work a AED (Automated External Defibrillator) These Defibrillators are all automatic.  You open it up and it talks to you, telling you step by step instructions.  If you were to do something wrong, it tells you that is wrong and how to do it again.

Cardboard Boat Race

So Much Fun.......Our Cub Scout Den had a cardboard boat race in a community pool.  Over the past three weeks each boy built their boats at home and it was amazing to see all their designs this morning.  This was a challenge since the only materials they can use is Cardboard, Duct Tape and Styrofoam.

After being in the water a few minutes, his boat melted.

There were quite a few that tipped over, rolled over and totally disintegrated.  But all in all they all had some really incredible boats.

There was only one boat that not only survived the race but survived eight boys jumping all over it.
There was three rolls of duct tape holing this boat together. They were all such great sports about it that they are starting to think about what kind of boat they are going to build next year.

The Cisco Kid has decided to run for Student body President.  We spent all weekend making his campaign poster and button.  5th graders are the only ones that participate in the candidacy and votes.   He has four other student running against him.  They vote this Thursday and we will know the results on Friday.

Amazing, Amazing, Coast line.

We have hiked up and down mountains, walked long winding trail's, all to get to the water.  On our travels down the coast we saw painting perfect sceneries.
Once we got to the ocean, The Cisco Kid could not resist digging a hole in the sand.  He has been dinging for as long as I could remember.  I do not get it.  I think it's a boy thing.

After seeing the entire coast we are now heading back to Oakland so we can catch our flight back to Florida in the morning.
